Call your doctor as soon as possible if you have:

  • heel pain with a fever;
  • redness or warmth in your heel; or
  • numbness or tingling in your heel.

Call your doctor if you have:

  • pain that does not go away when you are not bearing any weight on your heel; or
  • heel pain that persists for more than a week, even after you have rested the foot and applied ice.

If you have had heel pain for less than a week:

  • try resting and icing your heel;
  • try to avoid running or walking on hard surfaces;
  • wear different shoes (which have adequate support for the arch and good cushioning);
  • if you are an athlete, resist the temptation to train through the pain barrier.
