Call your doctor as soon as possible if you have:
- heel pain with a fever;
- redness or warmth in your heel; or
- numbness or tingling in your heel.
Call your doctor if you have:
- pain that does not go away when you are not bearing any weight on your heel; or
- heel pain that persists for more than a week, even after you have rested the foot and applied ice.
If you have had heel pain for less than a week:
- try resting and icing your heel;
- try to avoid running or walking on hard surfaces;
- wear different shoes (which have adequate support for the arch and good cushioning);
- if you are an athlete, resist the temptation to train through the pain barrier.
